Sue Ford studied photography at RMIT in Melbourne and since 1971 she has had numerous photographic exhibitons. In 1974 Sue Ford was the first Australian photographer to be given a solo exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. Sue has held solo exhibitions at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 1982, at the National Gallery of Victoria in 1988 and 1994. Monash University Gallery held a survey exhibition in 1995 titled Sue Ford 1960 - 1995. She has also made films which have achieved great critical success, such as Faces which was featured at the opening of the new Australian Centre for the Moving Image, at Federation Square. Faces has won many awards including an AFI. In 2005-6 Sue Ford received an Australia Council of the Arts Fellowship.
